Understanding Female Pain and
Pelvic Issues Following Surgery.
It’s something you don’t talk about with your girlfriends, your sisters, maybe not even your partner. You’re afraid to even bring it up with your doctor. We know there's so much embarrassment, shame, and hopelessness surrounding pelvic pain.
It affects your work, ability to exercise or play with your kids, and especially your intimate relationships. It can consume you. And you're left wondering... is there any hope for me?
Female pelvic pain can express itself in many ways, such as:
• Pain deep in the pelvis or vaginal area
• Rectal or coccyx (tailbone) pain
• Pain with sitting
• Pain after hysterectomy or other pelvic surgeries
• Pain in vulvar area (the outside part of the female genitals)
• Pain with sex, inserting tampons, or pelvic exams
• Pain resulting from sexual or medical trauma
• Low back, groin, or deep hip pain that doesn’t get better with general physical therapy
• Bladder pain/interstitial cystitis/pain with or after urination
You've tried it all and none of it is helping...
You’ve been through test after test, and all kinds of exams, yet doctors find nothing wrong. You've tried medications (some with unpleasant side effects), painful injections, and more. You may have even been told, “You just need to relax and have a glass of wine.” Or “this must be a psychological issue” i.e., “it’s all in your head.” It all adds even more shame and frustration.
You're post-surgery and still experiencing lasting symptoms...
Perhaps you’ve had a hysterectomy, prolapse surgery, or bladder sling and discovered that the surgery did not fix everything as promised. You still have lingering pain, or you have a new pain that persists beyond the normal recovery period. You’ve had no advice or instruction on how to manage your scar area, how to regain your core strength, or how to safely return to exercise or other activities. Your requests to have these issues addressed seem to be falling on deaf ears all around.
If this is you, we want you to know...
• You are NOT crazy
• Your pain IS real
• You are not alone!
• Just because the doctors found nothing does not mean that nothing is wrong
• Pelvic floor therapy CAN help
Haven't you had enough? Let us help you learn how to rise above your pain and get your life and intimacy back!
