What You Need to Know About Male Prostate Issues.

According to the American Cancer Society, men of all ages can develop issues with their prostate, however, men over age 50 are most at risk, and men over 65 are more likely to develop prostate cancer.


It is always advisable to check with your healthcare provider first to rule out any issues that need medical attention. If the tests and exams show “nothing wrong”, the problem could be pelvic floor related. We can help with that.​

Common Prostate Problems and How Pelvic Floor Therapy Can Help:

 

Prostate cancer treatments (prostatectomy, radiation): These treatments can often cause side effects such as urinary or fecal incontinence, urinary urgency/frequency, and/or pain. Pelvic floor therapy can be very helpful in reducing or eliminating these issues. side effects. And it involves much more than just Kegels or biofeedback! The result: a more comprehensive recovery, better quality of life, and getting rid of the adult diapers faster.

• Prostatitis: This is a common diagnosis for any pain in the prostate area. The usual treatment currently is antibiotics, assuming that you have an infection. However, a bacterial infection is typically present in only 10% of cases. 90% of cases of prostatitis show no chronic infection and are usually due to pelvic floor dysfunction. If the multiple rounds of antibiotics aren’t helping, you may have chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). Pelvic floor therapy is an excellent treatment for this condition.

• Enlarged Prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH): This often occurs as men age. While it is not a malignant condition, it does cause problems with urination (slow stream, pain, urgency). Pelvic floor therapy can help you manage some of these issues.
